Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in K-12 Public Education

Date: Friday, October 30, 2009
Time: 9 - 10:30
Place: Room 5, First Floor
Workshop Track: Immigrant Integration & Civic Participation

The Asian American and Pacific Islander student population is one of fastest growing racial groups in urban and surrounding communities. National and state attention has focused on reforming public education, however, without deep consideration of education programs that have positive impact on the most disenfranchised segments of the Asian American and Pacific Islander student population including English Learners, immigrants, Pacific Islanders and Southeast Asians. This workshop will address the issues facing these Asian American and Pacific Islander students and the challenges they face to succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy. This workshop highlights best practices that have proven to improve the education outcomes for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, particularly the subgroups that are at most risk for academic failure.

The Asian Pacific American Legal Center is a California State Bar certified provider of MCLE credits and this workshop has been approved for 1 hour of credit. To receive California MCLE credit, attorneys must pay an additional $10 per workshop that offers MCLE credit. Payment collected separately onsite.
